The Polokwane Municipality will commence with the process of rehabilitating the road networks in the City and parts of Seshego. As a result of the recent torrential rains and the aging of infrastructure, most of the road networks in the City have been found to have recurring potholes. After a vigorous assessment of the state of the roads, the following streets have been prioritized for the rehabilitation project:

-Vermikuliet from Witklip to Hill Street
-Market Street from Thabo Mbeki to Devenish Streets
-Grobler Street from Motor City to Biccard

A portion of Nelson Mandela Drive from the Seshego Traffic Circle will undergo an enormous facelift towards the Madiba Park traffic lights. This is according to the rehabilitation plan earmarked to be the pilot phase of the project.

A sum of over R 7 000,000.00 has been set aside to rehabilitate the indicated roads which a totaling over a distance of 2, 1 kilometers. The cost of resurfacing these porous, brittle and cracked tarmacs is much less in comparison with the reconstruction of these streets. A traffic accommodation plan has already been formulated in all the streets and motorists will be duly informed of the subsequent road closures. This is in line with the City’s preparations as a 2010 FIFA World Cup™ host. The Municipality plans to complete this project in 5 months time, but major streets will be completed in time for the Soccer World Cup. The first World Cup game in the City of Polokwane will be on 13 June 2010.

End!!!
